Christopher Makos
Christopher Makos (b. 1948) is an American photographer celebrated for his intimate portraits of the artists and personalities who shaped New York’s downtown scene in the 1970s and 1980s. A close friend and collaborator of Andy Warhol, he captured the artist in candid moments, on their travels, and in carefully staged portraits that explore identity and self-presentation. His celebrated ‘Altered Image’ series, featuring Warhol in wigs and makeup, reveals their shared fascination with transformation. Combining graphic clarity with personal intimacy, Makos’s photographs offer a compelling record of Warhol and the creative world around him.
